These terms explain how Quiet Promise works, the rules for using the service, subscription and payment terms, private media limits, cancellation rights, and how information may be released to approved recipients.
Quiet Promise is designed for private legacy planning, trusted-contact preparation, funeral wishes, practical information, and carefully permissioned release.
Account-holders are responsible for choosing trusted contacts carefully and keeping their information accurate and up to date.
Trusted contacts do not receive automatic access. A request must be submitted and manually reviewed.
Quiet Promise v1 does not accept identity-document, death-evidence, or general evidence uploads through the release request or review workflow.
A request may remain on a structured safety hold while verification, dispute, fraud, safeguarding, privacy, security, legal, or regulatory uncertainty makes a decision unsafe. A hold does not expire into release automatically.
Approved recipients only receive the categories they are permitted to see.
Recipient access is read-only, permission-limited, temporary, and may expire or be revoked.
Current scope
What these Terms cover
These Terms govern the current Quiet Promise account, preparation, support, release, media and billing journeys within the stated service boundaries.
Account creation is available through the Quiet Promise signup journey.
Annual subscriptions can be purchased through Stripe-hosted Checkout. Viewing or choosing a plan does not itself create a charge.
Photos, short videos and Voice Notes are available within your plan limits and applicable media controls, including secure private owner management and permission-gated recipient access.
Legacy Capsule is not included in the current service.
Service boundary
Service boundaries
Quiet Promise must be used within the stated boundaries of each feature. Subscription options, payment terms, storage limits and other service limits are explained on the relevant Quiet Promise pages.
Use Quiet Promise only within the boundaries of the feature you are using and keep formal or urgent matters with the appropriate professional or public service.
Do not rely on Quiet Promise as a day-to-day password manager, account-recovery service, or substitute for the security arrangements of the account or service concerned.
Selecting or viewing a plan does not create a paid subscription. A subscription begins only after successful payment and confirmation.
Relevant Quiet Promise pages provide additional information about feature limits, payment processes, media controls, release safeguards and security requirements. Those operational details form part of how the service is provided, but they do not reduce your statutory rights or allow Quiet Promise to make an unfair material change to the paid service you agreed to.
Important boundaries
Quiet Promise does not replace professional advice
Quiet Promise is intended to help people organise information and reduce confusion. It should not be used as a substitute for formal professional advice or urgent support.
Quiet Promise is not a legal advice service.
Quiet Promise is not a financial, tax, probate, medical, counselling, safeguarding, crisis, or emergency service.
Quiet Promise cannot replace a will, legal advice, estate planning, professional counselling, or emergency support.
Users and recipients should use qualified professionals and official services where formal decisions are needed.
Acceptable use
Use the service safely and honestly
The release model depends on trust, accuracy, and careful manual verification. Misuse may lead to access being refused, restricted, suspended, or investigated.
Do not upload information or media you do not have permission or authority to store and arrange to release.
Do not upload unlawful, malicious, abusive, threatening, exploitative, rights-infringing or harmful media, malware, unnecessary special-category information, or content primarily about criminal allegations or offences.
Account-holders must be 18 or over. Quiet Promise v1 trusted contacts, requesters and recipients must also be adults.
Every media upload requires a recorded age, special-category, third-party authority and acceptable-content declaration. Permission for another living person must include explicit permission for any special-category information and appropriate parental authority for anyone under 18.
Do not use Quiet Promise to harass, threaten, impersonate, mislead, or harm another person.
Do not try to bypass authentication, release controls, permissions, one-time codes, or recipient-session limits.
Do not submit false release requests or false evidence.
Do not treat hidden categories as confirmation that further information exists.
Private media rules
Private photos, short videos and Voice Notes have strict limits
Media stays in private Storage. It is not public, and a trusted contact receives no access merely because the owner selected an item. Access also requires manual release approval and a valid recipient session; each view link expires after 60 seconds.
JPEG, PNG and WebP images are limited to 15 MB. MP4 and QuickTime/MOV videos are limited to 100 MB and 60 seconds. Voice Notes may be added from an existing supported M4A or MP4 AAC-LC audio file or MP3 file, or recorded deliberately through the Voice Notes page. Each Voice Note has a maximum of 25 MB and 10 minutes. Item counts are finite by plan and media bytes share the configured private-media storage allowance. Unsupported or invalid files fail closed before becoming ready.
Quiet Promise does not provide third-party malware scanning or automated content moderation and must not be treated as a guaranteed permanent archive. Keep your own original copies and remove unwanted location or device metadata before upload.
Quiet Promise records the applicable lawful basis, explicit consent where required, authority and adult-access declarations for supported media. Private owner media upload is available within the stated plan, file, duration, content and authority limits.
Subscriptions, payments and renewals
Annual subscriptions and renewals
Lite costs £4.99, Pro costs £14.99, and Pro+ costs £29.99 per year. Subscriptions renew annually unless cancelled. Payment is processed securely through Stripe.
We aim to send a renewal reminder around 30 days before payment is due. We will tell you before any price change applies to a future renewal. You can turn off your next renewal through subscription management; access normally continues until the end of the period already paid for.
A trusted-contact request on its own does not change billing. If Quiet Promise manually confirms the account-holder's passing, we will stop automatic renewal as soon as possible and refund any renewal payment taken after that confirmation. This does not release information, provide access, delete the account, or override the account-holder's permissions.
Initial cancellation rights and our full-refund promise are explained below.
Cancellation rights
Cancelling your initial subscription
Quiet Promise allows you to cancel your initial subscription within 14 days of subscribing for a full refund. This promise is in addition to, and does not limit, your statutory rights. You can email support@quietpromise.co.uk or write to Simon Aitman trading as Quiet Promise, 65a Midland Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1HF. You do not have to use a particular form.
Asking us to begin the service immediately does not reduce this refund. If you cancel within 14 days of subscribing, we will stop future renewal, end paid access and refund the full amount you paid. We will make the refund within 14 days after you tell us you are cancelling, using the same means of payment unless you agree otherwise.
Turning off a future annual renewal is separate from cancelling your initial subscription.
If you prefer, you can use the print-friendly cancellation form below.
Subscription status does not control the release of your information. Cancelling, expiry, failed payment, a refund, dispute or chargeback will not automatically delete, expose or release sensitive information.
Stripe provides customer invoices and receipts. Quiet Promise keeps only the financial records needed for subscription administration, accounting and tax, refunds, disputes, fraud prevention and legal obligations. Cancelling your subscription or closing your account does not remove records we are required to retain, and they are kept only for as long as necessary.
Choosing a plan or creating an account does not create a paid subscription. Paid access begins only after successful payment is confirmed. Photos, short videos and Voice Notes are available within your plan limits and applicable media controls. Legacy Capsule is not included in the current service.
Our commitment
What you can expect from Quiet Promise
Quiet Promise will provide the service with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with these terms. If we do not meet the standards required by law, you may be entitled to the remedies available under consumer law.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded, including your statutory consumer rights, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Access and continuity
Suspension, account closure and service withdrawal
We may suspend or restrict access only where reasonably necessary and proportionate for security, fraud prevention, safeguarding, unlawful use, serious misuse, provider failure, operational safety, or a dispute affecting safe release. Where reasonably practicable, we will explain the reason, give appropriate notice, and allow a reasonable opportunity to resolve a remediable issue.
If we permanently withdraw paid service, we will where reasonably possible give advance notice, stop future renewals, explain what happens to protected information and pending release requests, provide a reasonable export or deletion opportunity, and provide any refund or other remedy required by consumer law.
If a suspension or restriction materially prevents paid service, any price reduction, refund, or other remedy required by consumer law remains available.
Problems and complaints
Complaints and dispute resolution
You can complain by emailing support@quietpromise.co.uk or by writing to Simon Aitman trading as Quiet Promise, 65a Midland Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1HF. Do not send passwords, payment-card details, one-time codes, or other secret credentials.
We will investigate fairly and provide a clear final response within a reasonable time. We are not currently subject to an identified legal or contractual obligation to participate in a particular ADR scheme and have not committed by these terms to a particular ADR provider.
When we communicate our final response, we will identify any ADR or other resolution arrangement that is available because we are legally or contractually obliged to participate. We may also identify a suitable accredited ADR provider or another resolution route and state whether we are prepared to participate voluntarily.
This complaints process does not restrict your statutory rights or your right to bring a claim in a court that has jurisdiction.
Legal framework
Governing law and courts
These terms and any consumer contract with Quiet Promise are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers in England or Wales may bring proceedings there; consumers in Scotland may bring proceedings in the Scottish courts; and consumers in Northern Ireland may bring proceedings in the courts of Northern Ireland.
You retain mandatory protections provided by the law applicable where you live. Nothing here restricts a right to bring proceedings in another court where consumer law permits it.
