Getting started
About Quiet Promise
What the service is, who it is for and what you can prepare.
01What is Quiet Promise?
Quiet Promise is a private online service that helps you prepare and organise important information, wishes and memories for the people you trust.
You choose what to add, who your Trusted Contacts are and which types of information each person may be allowed to receive. Nothing is released automatically; any request for access goes through Quiet Promise's protected review process first.
02Who is Quiet Promise for?
Quiet Promise is for adults who want to make things clearer and easier for the people they care about.
It is designed for people who want to prepare important information, wishes, memories and practical details in advance, so that chosen Trusted Contacts can receive the right information if it is ever needed.
03Is Quiet Promise a will or legal service?
No. Quiet Promise is not a will-writing or legal advice service.
It is there to help you organise important information, wishes and practical details, including recording where private or important documents are kept so the people you trust know where to look when the time comes. Anything that needs to be legally binding, such as a will or formal estate planning, should still be dealt with through the appropriate professional service.
04What can I store in Quiet Promise?
Quiet Promise lets you store and organise a range of important information, wishes and memories in one private place.
Depending on your plan and the feature you are using, this can include funeral wishes, practical information, details about where important documents are kept, protected Vault information, photos, short videos and Voice Notes.
You stay in control of what you add and which categories each Trusted Contact may be allowed to receive.
05Do I need to download an app?
No. You can use Quiet Promise through your web browser, so there is nothing you need to download.
Simply visit Quiet Promise on your phone, tablet or computer and sign in to your account.
Apps for the Apple App Store and Google Play are still in development. When they become available, your existing Quiet Promise account and saved information will carry across, so you will not need to start again. Updates on progress will be shared through the Quiet Promise social media pages.
06Can I change or update my information later?
Yes. Quiet Promise is designed to be updated as life changes.
You can return to your account and update your wishes, practical information, Trusted Contacts and other saved details whenever you need to.
Keeping your information up to date helps make sure the right people can receive the right information if it is ever needed.
Trusted Contacts
Trusted Contacts and release
How people are chosen, what they can receive and how protected release works.
07What is a Trusted Contact?
A Trusted Contact is an adult you choose and trust to receive certain information from your Quiet Promise account if it is ever appropriate to release it.
This could be a partner, family member or simply someone you trust with your personal or private information. You decide who your Trusted Contacts are and which categories of information each person may be allowed to receive.
Your Trusted Contacts can also be changed as your circumstances change.
Being added as a Trusted Contact does not give someone access to your account or information. Any future request for information must first go through Quiet Promise's protected review process.
08Does a Trusted Contact get access as soon as I add them?
No. Adding someone as a Trusted Contact does not give them access to your Quiet Promise account or any of your saved information.
Their details are recorded so Quiet Promise can recognise them if they ever need to make a request in the future. Any request must still go through Quiet Promise's protected review process before anything can be released.
Only the information you have chosen for that Trusted Contact can ever be made available to them.
09Will my Trusted Contact know that I have added them?
Yes. Quiet Promise sends them a private notification to let them know they have been named as a Trusted Contact.
That message does not identify you or reveal any of your private information. It simply explains what being a Trusted Contact means, what details Quiet Promise holds about them, and what their privacy rights are.
They do not need to do anything unless they want to contact Quiet Promise or ask to be removed.
10Can I choose what each Trusted Contact is allowed to see?
Yes. You decide which categories of information each Trusted Contact may be allowed to receive.
Different Trusted Contacts can be given different permissions, so you do not have to share the same information with everyone.
Quiet Promise only makes approved information available in line with the permissions you have chosen.
11Can I change or remove a Trusted Contact?
Yes. You can change or remove a Trusted Contact if your circumstances or relationships change.
You can also review and update the categories of information they may be allowed to receive.
Keeping your Trusted Contacts up to date helps make sure your information remains aligned with your current wishes.
12What happens when a Trusted Contact tells Quiet Promise that an account holder has died?
Quiet Promise does not release information simply because someone reports that an account holder has died.
A request is first checked against the account holder's Trusted Contact details and then goes through a protected manual review.
Only after the necessary checks have been completed and the request has been approved can information be made available — and only the information the account holder chose for that Trusted Contact.
13Is information released automatically?
No. Quiet Promise does not automatically release information when a request is made.
Any request must go through the protected review process first. Quiet Promise checks that the request matches the account holder's Trusted Contact arrangements and that the necessary safeguards have been satisfied before anything is made available.
If a request is approved, only the information the account holder chose for that Trusted Contact can be accessed.
14What can a Trusted Contact see if their request is approved?
A Trusted Contact can only see the information the account holder chose for them.
They do not receive access to the account holder's full Quiet Promise account. Their private view is limited to the categories and information the account holder permitted for that Trusted Contact.
Information that was not assigned to them remains unavailable.
15How long can a Trusted Contact access the information after their request is approved?
Access provided to a Trusted Contact after approval is temporary and is not intended to provide permanent access to a Quiet Promise account.
Once their request has been approved, the Trusted Contact receives protected access details. They use the email address that received the approval message together with a time-limited, one-time code to open their private view.
The code can only be used once. Once accepted, it opens a temporary, read-only session showing only the information the account holder chose for that Trusted Contact.
Access may expire or be withdrawn as part of Quiet Promise's security controls. If access is no longer available and the Trusted Contact still needs help, they can contact support@quietpromise.co.uk.
16Can a Trusted Contact change or delete anything after their request is approved?
No. Access provided to a Trusted Contact is read-only.
They can view only the information the account holder chose for them, but they cannot change, add to or delete anything in the Quiet Promise account.
They also do not receive access to the account holder's sign-in details or the rest of their account.
17What happens to my Quiet Promise account while I am still alive?
While you are alive, your Quiet Promise account remains yours and you stay in control of the information you have added.
You can sign in, update your information, change your wishes and review your Trusted Contacts as your circumstances change.
Your Trusted Contacts do not gain access simply because you have named them. Quiet Promise only considers private information for release after an account holder's passing, following a request and protected manual review.
Until then, your information remains private within your Quiet Promise account.
Privacy and security
Keeping information protected
How Quiet Promise handles private information and what should not be stored.
18Can Quiet Promise access the information I store?
Quiet Promise is designed to keep your information private and to use it only where necessary to provide, protect and administer the service.
Some sensitive information placed in protected Vault fields is encrypted, and photos, videos and Voice Notes are stored privately.
Quiet Promise may need to process information where necessary to operate or protect the service, provide support, meet a legal obligation or carry out an approved release. It would therefore be misleading to say that Quiet Promise can never technically process information stored within the service.
Your private information is not made public, sold or used for advertising or behavioural profiling.
19How is my information protected?
Quiet Promise uses several layers of protection to keep your information private and restrict who can access it.
Your account is protected by sign-in controls, permitted sensitive Vault information is held in protected encrypted fields, and photos, videos and Voice Notes are stored privately.
Protected areas of Quiet Promise are also kept outside the website analytics system, so private account, Vault, media and recipient journeys are not included in normal website analytics.
If information is ever requested by a Trusted Contact, nothing is released automatically. The request must be reviewed first, and access provided after approval is temporary, read-only and limited to the information you chose for that Trusted Contact.
20What information should I not store in Quiet Promise?
Quiet Promise is designed for important personal information, wishes and selected account details, but some highly sensitive information should not be stored in the service.
Do not store full payment-card numbers, CVV or CVC security codes, card or banking PINs, online-banking passwords, magnetic-stripe data or one-time authentication codes.
Quiet Promise should also not be used as your everyday password manager or as a replacement for the security or account-recovery arrangements provided by your bank, email provider or other online services.
Where Quiet Promise provides a protected field specifically for permitted sensitive information, use that field rather than placing the information somewhere else within the service.
Subscription and account
Plans, renewal and account choices
Pricing, renewal, cancellation, deletion and your information rights.
21How much does Quiet Promise cost?
Quiet Promise currently offers three annual subscription plans:
Lite — £4.99 per year
Pro — £14.99 per year
Pro+ — £29.99 per year
Each plan provides access to Quiet Promise, with different allowances for Trusted Contacts, photos, videos, Voice Notes and private storage.
You can compare the plans before choosing the one that best suits what you want to prepare and store. See the Quiet Promise plans.
22Does my subscription renew automatically?
Yes. Quiet Promise subscriptions renew annually unless you cancel the next renewal.
Quiet Promise aims to send a reminder approximately 30 days before your renewal date, showing your plan, annual price and a clear way to manage or cancel your subscription.
If you cancel the next renewal before payment is due, your paid access normally continues until the end of the annual period you have already paid for.
23What happens to my information if I stop renewing?
Stopping your next renewal does not immediately delete your Quiet Promise information.
If you cancel your next annual renewal, your paid access normally continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.
When the subscription later expires, your subscription status remains separate from the release of your information. Cancellation, expiry or a failed payment does not automatically delete, expose or release your sensitive information.
Cancelling a renewal is different from asking Quiet Promise to delete your account and information. Account deletion is a separate process.
24How do I delete my Quiet Promise account and information?
You can request deletion of your Quiet Promise account through your signed-in account.
For security, Quiet Promise asks you to confirm your password before the deletion request can be submitted.
Submitting the request does not delete everything immediately. Quiet Promise records the request and reviews it before carrying out the deletion, helping to make sure the account and information are handled safely.
Most account information can then be dealt with through the deletion process. Some limited information may need to be retained or handled separately where there is a legal, security, payment, dispute, safeguarding or record-keeping requirement.
Requesting account deletion is separate from simply stopping your next subscription renewal.
25Can I request a copy of my Quiet Promise information?
Yes. You can request a copy of your Quiet Promise information at any time.
You can find this option on the Family Support page. From there, follow the link to request a copy of your information and sign in to your Quiet Promise account if prompted.
For security, Quiet Promise asks you to confirm your password before the request can be submitted. The request is then securely recorded for handling.
Requesting a copy does not change or delete the information held in your Quiet Promise account.
26How do I cancel my Quiet Promise subscription?
You can manage cancellation through Quiet Promise's Cancellation page.
If you simply want to stop your subscription renewing for another year, you can turn off your next annual renewal. Your paid access will normally continue until the end of the period you have already paid for.
If you are cancelling your initial subscription during an applicable cancellation period, the Cancellation page also explains how to submit that request.
Cancelling a subscription is separate from requesting deletion of your Quiet Promise account and information.
